Johannesburg – Johannesburg Central police have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with an alleged rape at the City Lodge Newtown, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

It was alleged that the man raped a 30-year-old woman at the lodge on Saturday night, Captain Xoli Mbele said.

The woman apparently met the man in the “past weeks and exchanged numbers”. They started to communicate with each other. They met at New Junction Mall and went to the man’s room at the lodge, where he allegedly raped her “without her consent”.

The police investigation was under way and the man would appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, Mbele said.
