Margate police are questioning a man about the murder of ANC councillor Wandile Mkhize, The Witness newspaper reported on Friday.

“The man was arrested… for the illegal possession of a gun. He is also being questioned by police about Wandile Mkhize’s murder,” police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka was quoted as saying.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said he could not comment, because the investigation was at a sensitive stage.

According to The Witness Mfeka said the 41-year-old man was questioned late into Thursday night.

The 34-year-old Hibiscus Coast councillor was gunned down near his home in the Margate area on the night of June 30. His funeral on July 8 was attended by ANC top brass, including President Jacob Zuma. – Sapa
