Durban - A father-of-two was in hospital on Sunday night after being attacked in his home.

Tyron Powell, the owner of Marshall Security, Durban North, said the attack took place at 3.30am on Sunday in Sunninghill Estates, a gated complex in Round The Green, Sunningdale.

The 54-year-old man, who was alone at home, woke up and found two intruders in his house. “He was in a bad condition when my men spoke to him,” said Powell.

The intruders had tied him up and stabbed him several times in his neck, chest and hands. The man was a collector of swords and knives, and the intruders stabbed him with one of the weapons from his collection, Powell said.

The intruders stole small items and fled. After they left, the man went outside and woke his neighbours.

“He collapsed outside one of their front doors,” said Powell.

Netcare911’s Chris Botha said the man was taken to Addington Hospital. He was later transferred to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.

Police spokesman Thulani Zwane confirmed that a case of house robbery was opened at Durban North police station.

The man was in a critical condition. His family could not be reached for comment. - The Mercury
