Johannesburg - Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for two robbers following the murder of an elderly woman in Lydenburg, police said on Thursday.

Charlotte Kruger, 66, and her husband, 70, were watching TV at around 2am when two armed men broke into their home last Friday.

“They tied the elderly couple with a wire and stuffed rags in their mouths,” said police spokesman Colonel Leonard Hlathi.

He said the woman died as a result of the rag being pushed too deep.

The robbers stole a plasma TV, hi-fi system and a firearm.

Hlathi appealed to members of community to assist police in catching the robbers.

He said once arrested the men would be charged with murder and house robbery. - Sapa
