Johannesburg - The trial of the man accused of driving negligently and causing the death of former president Nelson Mandela's great granddaughter continues in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Sizwe Mankazana, 25, was a family friend of the Mandelas and was taking 13-year-old Zenani Mandela home after the World Cup opening ceremony in 2010 when their car crashed into barriers at the side of the highway.

The accident happened on the M1 north heading into the double decker highway.

Mankazana is accused of being under the influence of alchohol and driving negligently.

His lawyer Ken Oldwadge has been cross-questioning metro policeman Sergeant Rudolf Potsane, who was on the scene of the accident. - Sapa
