Durban - A 27-year-old metro policeman’s body was found under the Alice Street bridge at 5am on Friday.

According to metro police spokesman, Senior Superintendent Eugene Msomi, the constable, who cannot be named as his family is yet to be informed, allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, a 28-year-old metro police constable, at their flat in Berea. “The policeman had disappeared after the shooting, which we believe took place at midnight at the flat.

“His body was found underneath the Alice Street bridge with a gunshot wound to the head. His firearm is missing. The details of the incident are unclear at this stage. The case has been handed over to the SAPS to investigate,” said Msomi.

It is believed that the metro policeman had driven off towards the city centre after allegedly shooting his girlfriend and that he had shot himself in his car. Further, it is also believed the policeman’s body was removed from the vehicle before it and the firearm were stolen.

Msomi said he could not confirm these allegations at this stage.
