Pretoria - Two Tshwane metro police have been arrested for allegedly trying to solicit a bribe from a motorist they stopped on Thursday night, metro police spokesman Isaac Mahamba said.

“They told him his licence disc was faulty and demanded money,” he said on Friday.

“The motorist said he did not have money and asked the officers to follow him to his plot.”

When they arrived at the plot in Welbekend the man called the police, who arrested the officers.

They were expected to bring a formal bail application during a court appearance on Friday. Mahamba said the department would oppose bail.

“We are going to institute internal disciplinary procedures and letters of intent to suspend will be issued,” he said. - Sapa
