A Northern Cape woman accused of killing her five children appeared in the Pampierstad Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

Spokesman Frank Lesenyego said the matter was postponed to Friday.

Venolia Siwa, 35, is accused of drowning her children, aged between two and 13, when she thought a lethal concoction she had given them was not working fast enough.

She was arrested last year when the bodies were found at a house in Lower Majeakgoro village.

Siwa spent 30 days in a mental institution in January for evaluation.

Police said in March the case docket had been handed to the director of public prosecution for a decision. - Sapa
