More than 400 arrested in Mitchells Plain

A total of 478 people were arrested in Mitchells Plain this week, Cape Town police said on Sunday.

The SAPS cluster in Mitchells Plain said a number of crime prevention operations were conducted in the area since Monday, leading to the arrests.

Those arrested faced a variety of charges including murder, rape, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, domestic violence, possesion of drugs and other crimes.

On Tuesday (July 17) Mitchells Plain police arrested two men aged between 20 and 24 for murder. They appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on Thursday, and their case was postponed to July 26.

Detectives also arrested 64 wanted suspects during operations.

Three stolen vehicles were recovered while various illegal drugs were confiscated including heroin, tik, mandrax, cocaine and dagga.

A warrant officer, based at Mitchells Plain SAPS, was also arrested on Wednesday for trying to take a parcel of dagga into the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court. - Sapa
