Johannesburg - A mother and daughter, both pensioners, were found beaten to death in a house in Lambton, Germiston on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

In a statement, Gauteng provincial police commissioner Deliwe de Lange expressed shock about the "ruthless murder" of the two women, aged 91 and 70.

The bodies were discovered by another one of the 91-year-old's daughters.

Police suspect the women were followed into the Webber Road house, which was found to have been ransacked.

The women were repeatedly beaten with a blunt object. No arrests have been made and investigations continue.

"Crimes against children, women and the elderly are a priority and police will make sure that those who are responsible are brought to book," said de Lange.
