Johannesburg -The teenage woman whose son was found wandering on the N1 freeway was found guilty in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Thursday of attempted murder and child abandonment.

“She will know her sentence on September 16,” Gauteng traffic police spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalo said in a statement.

The 19-year-old woman was arrested on the night of April 5, two days after her 16-month-old boy narrowly escaped being hit by a truck while walking along the N1 highway, near the Grasmere off-ramp.

She pleaded guilty to both charges and was previously granted R500 bail.
