Nine held for diesel theft

Kimberley, Northern Cape - Eight men and a woman were arrested in Kimberley on Monday for allegedly stealing diesel from the Sol Plaatje municipality, Northern Cape police said.

Lt-Col Hendrik Swart said six of those arrested were municipal employees.

A chemical was added to the municipality's fuel when the theft was suspected. Police took samples from 13 vehicles to test whether the chemical was present.

A double cab Isuzu bakkie belonging to one of the suspects, 623 litres of diesel in plastic containers, and 85 empty containers were confiscated. - Sapa
