Durban - A KwaMakhutha nurse was arrested after she was implicated in the murder of her husband, said KwaZulu-Natal police on Saturday.

The woman, 44, was arrested on Friday. Her husband was killed in December 2011 in what appeared to be a break-in and robbery, said Col Vincent Mdunge.

“Three armed men entered his residence and robbed him of R70 000 stokvel money. The suspects took him and his Toyota Yaris to Obivane river where they shot him dead,” said Mdunge.

The abandoned vehicle was found and investigations led to the arrest of two men in February 2012.

Shortly after the arrests, a woman, 28, approached the investigating officer and claimed that the third man linked to the murder was her brother.

She allegedly offered the officer R30 000 to steal the docket.

The woman and her brother were arrested.

Police later learned that the dead man's wife was allegedly behind his killing.

“She hired three hit men to do the job for her and gave them an instruction to make it look like a house robbery and take the stokvel money,” said Mdunge.

The woman was expected to appear in court soon. - Sapa
