Cape Town – More than 30 people were arrested during an Operation Fiela raid in Milnerton, Cape Town on Thursday, police said.

“Summergreens, a suburb in Milnerton was in the sights of Operation Fiela this morning with special emphasis on drugs and related criminal activity,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

Pre-identified houses were searched while a vehicle checkpoint was simultaneously conducted in the suburb with only one entry and exit point, Traut said. He said the operation resulted in the arrests of 38 suspects.

Three male suspects were arrested for being in possession of one kilogram of tik valued at R275 000. A 45-year-old man was also arrested for being in possession of two grams of cocaine, while 34 people were also arrested.

In total, the operation saw 55 pre-identified premises, 82 vehicles, and 196 persons being searched.

Traut said the joint operation, which was conducted by members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies, was welcomed by residents.

“The presence of police was exceptionally well received by law abiding citizens who reported illegal activity spontaneously,” he said.

All suspects would appear in court once charged.
