Johannesburg - Oscar Pistorius was expected back in the dock at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel was expected to continue with his cross-examination of the Paralympic athlete, who is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend, model and law graduate Reeva Steenkamp.

On Wednesday, Nel swiftly reduced Pistorius to tears as he told him to take responsibility for killing her.

Using the screens around the court, Nel displayed a close-up photograph of the bullet wounds that Steenkamp sustained to her head and called on Pistorius to look at it.

“You killed a person, you killed Reeva Steenkamp, that's what you did... Say: 'I shot and killed her',” Nel said.

“Take responsibility for what you did. I know you don't want to see this, but look at it.”

Pistorius sobbed in protest: “I remember... My fingers touched her head, I do not have to look at a picture.”

Pistorius shot Steenkamp through a locked bathroom at his home on Valentine’s Day last year.

He claims he mistook her for an intruder. - Sapa
