Johannesburg - A Pakistani couple who allegedly kidnapped a six-month-old boy and seriously injured his nanny in Bezuidenhout Valley will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police arrested the Pakistani couple on Thursday last week.

It is alleged that they kidnapped the baby and allegedly tried to slit his nanny's throat on Tuesday last week.

The couple had rented a room in the family's house.

Police said the father received a text message on Wednesday saying that they (the alleged kidnappers) were demanding R100 000 for the baby.

E-News Channel Africa reported that police found the couple following a tip-off from the public. The nanny was recovering in hospital.

The baby was found unharmed.

The couple had three children of their own, and were apparently expecting a fourth. They would face charges of kidnapping and attempted murder. - Sapa
