Komatipoort - A Mpumalanga pensioner appeared in court on Thursday for allegedly hacking his friend to death with a butcher's knife.

Mackson Elias Sibiya, 72, of Dludluma village near the Mozambican border, was not asked to plead when he appeared in the Tonga Magistrate's Court, a Sapa correspondent reported.

“You will appear in court in April for DNA test results,” Chief Magistrate Sam Nkuna told the accused.

Sibiya, who walked into court leaning on a stick, was arrested on October 9, 2013.

He was accused of hacking to death his friend Armando Manyonola Chauke, 50, after a fight broke between the two men at a tavern.

Prosecutor Eugene Mathebula requested the magistrate to postpone the case for DNA test results to be presented in court.

The matter was postponed to April 4.
