Johannesburg - A man, who allegedly tried to hijack a motorist with a toy gun, was critically injured in Johannesburg on Wednesday afternoon, after he was shot in the chest.

Johannesburg Metro police department (JMPD) spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the driver was travelling in a Fiat at the corner of Lilian Ngoyi and Pixley Ka Seme street.

He said the 25-year-old man attempted to hijack the motorist with a toy gun when he was shot.
