Police arrest 315 in Soweto

Police arrested 315 people in a pre-festive season crackdown in Soweto over the weekend.

Police conducted road blocks and raids in Dobsonville, Lenasia, Jabulani, Lenasia South, Moroka, Naledi and Protea Glen between Friday and Sunday morning, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

Arrests were made for crimes ranging from murder to assault. Among them was a 40-year-old woman arrested for possession of 17 bags of dagga which she was transporting from Lesotho.

Five shebeens were closed for operating without a licence. The owners were arrested and liquor worth R100,000 was confiscated.
