Parliament, Cape Town - Police are still studying a report by the Public Protector implicating expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema, police spokesman Phuti Setati said on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a police management briefing to Parliament's police committee, Setati confirmed police had received papers from the Public Protector's office.
But Setati said he was not in a position to say whether Malema would be charged.
“We can't give you a timeframe now (on when a decision will be made) and the only thing we can say is we're looking at it,” said Setati.
Earlier this month, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela released a damning report detailing how Malema's Ratanang family trust had benefited unlawfully from tenders awarded by the Limpopo provincial government.
The report was handed to the police for investigation.
Madonsela found that tenders for the construction of roads and bridges worth around R50 million were improperly awarded to On-Point engineering.
Malema was a previous director of the firm.
Madonsela further found that over R2 million was paid from On-Point to the Ratanang trust. - Sapa
