Pietermaritzburg - An elderly Hilton resident who was stabbed in the head is recovering in a Pietermaritzburg Hospital after being attacked by three armed robbers on Wednesday night.
Edmond Scott Roodt, 71, was on the patio of his Devonshire Lane home, feeding his dogs when he was confronted by men wearing balaclavas.
The police’s Captain Thulani Zwane said the men were armed with knives, a screwdriver and a plank.
He said the suspects forced Roodt, who was alone, into the house and assaulted him with the plank. Roodt was then stabbed in the head with one of the knives.
As he lay on the floor, the suspects tied his hands and feet with rope. According to Zwane, the robbers ransacked the house and escaped with three of Roodt’s shotguns, a large amount of ammunition, various electrical appliances, a Nokia cellphone, R4 000 cash as well as foreign currency.
