Johannesburg - A member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Reserve Force component and his wife were arrested on Wednesday following an investigation into allegations of fraudulent transactions.

SANDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga said the two were arrested by members of the Military Police Division (MPD) in Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.

“The arrest follows an investigation into allegations of fraudulent transactions with regards to call-up of SANDF Reserve Force members,” Mabanga said.

Mabanga said it was alleged that the member committed fraudulent transactions whilst he was serving as a Human Resources clerk responsible for calling up of Reserve Force members at Joint Tactical Headquarters (J Tac HQ) in Nelspruit over the period 2009 and 2013.

“According to the evidence gathered, the member would fraudulently call them up on the system without their knowledge. It is alleged that he benefited financially from the fraudulent call-ups,” Mabanga said.

The member and his wife were expected to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
