A second man was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering an elderly woman in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Local police task teams arrested the man, 26, in Gamalakhe, near Margate, at noon, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Last Thursday, 76-year-old Rita Coetzee was found murdered in her house. She appeared to have been strangled with a scarf.

A DVD player, cellphone and Coetzee's handbag, which were stolen from the house were recovered on Friday, Zwane said.

The first man, aged 23, was arrested on Sunday.
