Cape Town – The Limpopo Agriculture Forum's Safety and Security division has brought it to IOL's attention that a report carried on our website about a farmer shooting a worker in the head because he mistook the man for a monkey is factually incorrect.

In a written complaint to IOL's editor the organisation has given its version of events in an attempt to set the record straight.

According to the forum, a pastor who lives on the farm was being terrorized by feral monkeys. Such troops of monkeys "can become a pest and hindrance," the forum says.

Shot in head by boss who thought he was a monkey

The pastor allegedly used an air rifle to fire shots in the general direction of the monkeys to scare them away. The agricultural body says a farm worker was accidentally hit.

"The pastor took the farm worker to a nearby doctor for treatment of a minor wound. The pastor also reported the incident to the police straight away.

"As a man of peace, he is very remorseful about what happened. It was not even his intention to kill any monkey, just to fire a warning shot with the air rifle."

IOL would like to stress that the report was obtained from a trusted service provider and carried on our website in good faith, and without any malice intended.
