East London -

Six people were arrested on Thursday for defrauding the Buffalo City municipality, in the Eastern Cape, of R11.8 million, police said.

Major Ernest Sigobe said the fraud was committed between February and September 2008.

The Hawks arrested three people in Mthatha and another three in East London. One of those arrested was still employed by the municipality, said Sigobe.

They were aged between 36 and 50, and would appear soon in court. - Sapa
