Port Eizabeth – Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of murder and house robbery after a 37-year old man was found strangled to death in his home in Malabar, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said police received information on a suspected stolen vehicle which led them to a hotel in Summerstrand along the Port Elizabeth beachfront on Monday afternoon.

Janse Van Rensburg said a 24-year old man was found with a black Mercedes Benz and arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

She said upon further information, police were led to a house in Crammer Street, Malabar, where they found a 66-year-old woman who had been assaulted.

“The suspected stolen vehicle was registered in the elderly lady’s name. Police found her and she was confused, they searched the house and then came across her 37-year old son, Bhaven Moodley, who appeared to have been strangled to death,” Janse Van Rensburg said.

Police were investigating the possibility that the 24-year-old suspect could be linked to the house robbery and murder.
