Nelspruit - Twelve students arrested for public violence appeared in the Acornhoek Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said Mpumalanga police.

The group was alleged to have embarked on a violent protest, demanding accommodation at the Acornhoek TVET College and financial aid, Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

“In the process, the students allegedly emptied fire extinguishers around the offices and set some of the offices alight,” Hlathi said.

“As a result, police were forced to disperse the crowd and in the process arrested the 12.”

The students were released on warning and their case was postponed to April 1 for further investigations.
