Johannesburg - A Soweto flying squad officer who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend on Sunday confessed to a friend that the man had threatened to kill her before.

Humbulani Mudau’s friend, who asked not to be named, said: “She told me the man had said to her that he only felt for the children every time he looked at her face. She was very stressed about the relationship because the guy was on and off with her.

“She used to talk a lot to me about her relationship. I once told her that if she was ready to leave him, then she must do so and accept the fact that she was moving on.”

The friends, who live in Protea Glen, Soweto, met three years ago when they both moved into the area.

She said the man would come and visit her friend for days before disappearing again.

On Sunday, the friends had planned to go shopping, but that never took place.

“She sent me a WhatsApp message to say the man was at her place sleeping as he was from nightshift. We then cancelled our plans. I was sad when I got the news,” the woman said.

Mudau was gunned down at her boyfriend’s house in Protea Glen.

Her boyfriend, also a member of the flying squad based in Joburg, allegedly fired five shots at the woman in the presence of their child and the man’s wife. He then fled in a car.

The Star understands the suspect’s family knew about the couple’s relationship as she was known to them as “wife number 3”. But on Monday, Mudau’s family said they had never seen the man before.
