Police in Cape Town have arrested two women, dubbed Thelma and Louise, who allegedly went on a crime spree of nine armed robberies, housebreaking and theft.

They were arrested at about 11.30pm on Thursday, said police Captain F C van Wyk.

The pair, aged 24 and 25, had targeted women for their handbags and cellphones, which they sold to get money to feed their drug habits. They were allegedly involved in an armed robbery on Thursday night in Duncan Road, just outside the V&A Waterfront.

Van Wyk said a 39-year-old woman was approached by two armed women in a white Opel Kadet who stole her bag.

They are also believed to have been involved in armed robberies in Table View, Parow and Bothasig. – Saturday Star
