Johannesburg - Three men appeared in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of armed robbery and attempted murder, Mpumalanga police said.

Tumelo Chiloane, 25, Elias Magashe, 29, and Tshepo Mokoena, 30, allegedly robbed a liquor store along Lydenburg Road outside of Pilgrim’s Rest on Friday, said spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

“The suspects held the owner at gunpoint and demanded cash. In the process they shot the owner on the stomach, then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register, cigarettes and a bottle of whisky then fled the scene.”

The alleged robbers were arrested and all stolen items worth R2000 and a firearm believed to have been used in the robbery was confiscated. They also face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, said Mohlala.

The three are expected back in court on May 14 for bail application.
