Three people have been arrested in Mfuleni in Cape Town for being in possession a hand-grenade, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer November Filander said police were tipped off on Wednesday about a man walking around Wesbank with explosives.

A patrol found the man, 31, carrying a plastic bag shortly afterwards. When he saw the officers, the man walked into the yard of the nearest house and dropped the bag into a bin.

He was arrested and the bag retrieved with a hand-grenade inside, which still had its safety pin intact.

Police were led to a house in Delft where two more people, aged 32 and 44, were arrested in connection with the crime.

All three will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
