Durban - Three men were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a KwaZulu-Natal taxi boss and his wife, police said.

Colonel Jay Naicker said the men were picked up three days after the couple were murdered in Gqumeni, Sundumbili, in KwaZulu-Natal.

An AK-47 rifle, a pistol and an LM6 rifle were seized during Wednesday's operation, Naicker said in a statement.

The couple were killed on Sunday. According to police, Getrude Mashaya, 54, was in her home in Ezakheni, Sundumbili, when she was shot and her house set alight. She died on the scene.

Her husband Paulos Mashaya, 60, who was not at home at the time, went to investigate after he heard his wife was dead. On his way home that night, he was shot and killed.

The men, aged between 25 and 29, were expected to appear in the Nyoni Magistrate's Court on Friday to face two counts of murder and arson.
