Three suspected poachers killed

Three suspected rhino poachers were killed in the past two days, SANParks said on Wednesday.

A fourth poacher was injured and three others arrested, said spokesman Reynold Thakhuli in a statement.

One poacher was killed in the Kruger National Park on Monday when rangers came into contact with his group. A firearm was confiscated and rhino horns were recovered.

Later in the day, another three people were arrested for rhino poaching in the lower Sabie section of the KNP. A firearm and an axe were recovered

On Tuesday, rangers were following up on the case when they came across another group of suspected poachers. One man was wounded and two were killed. A firearm and two axes were seized.

On August 27, the total number of rhinos poached in the country stood at 222, said Thakhuli. - Sapa
