Three suspects wounded in Edenvale shootout

Edenvale - Three suspects were wounded following a shootout with SAPS Crime Intelligence Head Office task team members on Friday. 

The incident took place in Edenvale at around 1pm and was a joint operation with the Gauteng Traffic Saturation Unit, private security as well as Tracker.

Police, in a statement, explained that task team members, acting on information, spotted three suspects in Greenstone Hill and approached them.

"As the law enforcement team identified themselves and tried to stop the vehicle, the suspects opened fire on the officers who returned fire," police said.

Three suspects were wounded in the ensuing shootout and were taken to hospital for medical attention where they remain under police guard.

 

Police also recovered two unlicensed firearms and a suspected hijacked vehicle, linked to another case.

"Cases of possession of unlicensed firearms as well as possession of suspected hijacked motor vehicle  have been opened for investigation," police said.

The suspects will appear in court in due course.
