Tshwane -

Six Tshwane municipal employees have been arrested for alleged fraud and corruption involving over R7.3 million, the city's metro police said on Friday.

The employees, who were responsible for maintaining and servicing the council's fleet of vehicles, had allegedly been submitting irregular invoices, said Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

They were arrested on Thursday.

“They were claiming money from council for services they didn't provide,” he said.

The fleet included vehicles from metro police and fire and emergency services.

Mahamba said a tip-off had been received about three-months-ago and an investigation was launched.

“We have been monitoring them for about two to three months now… some invoices were even done after hours.”

It was not clear when the six would appear in court. - Sapa
