Johannesburg - Two men arrested following the rape of Bredasdorp teenager Anene Booysen are expected to apply for bail on Tuesday.

Jonathan Davids, 22, and Johannes Kana, 21, will appear in the Bredasdorp Magistrate's Court.

They are charged with raping and killing Booysen, 17. She was found on Saturday, February 2, at the Asla construction site, where she worked, after visiting a club in the town the previous night.

She had been brutally injured and disembowelled. She died in hospital later that day.

At the pair's last court appearance on February 12, magistrate Graham Cupido ruled that their faces not be shown in the media because the State believed this could jeopardise the ongoing investigation.

In an interview Kana's uncle described him as religious and a talented sportsman.

Johannes Kana said his nephew, who has the same name and surname, had been to England to play cricket.

“I thought when he got back here that he would do his stuff like rugby and cricket, but look where he is now.” - Sapa
