Two men were re-arrested on Monday after escaping from the Jane Furse police station holding cells with 12 other awaiting-trial prisoners, Limpopo police said.

“The two escapees were re-arrested in Jane Furse today after an intensive search by the police,” Lt-Col Mohale Ramatseba said.

The 14 escaped on Sunday morning after overpowering a police officer who was serving them tea.

They were awaiting trial for attempted murder, robbery, rape, vehicle theft, possession of suspected stolen property, and housebreaking.

“An intensive search was immediately launched and five were re-arrested in Jane Furse (on Sunday).”

The other seven were still on the run.

All seven arrested would appear in the Nebo Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of escaping from lawful custody. - Sapa
