Two awaiting trial prisoners were rearrested on Wednesday in Kgomotso after escaping from police cells, North West police said.

Captain Amanda Funani said four men, aged between 24 and 30, used a hack-saw to cut open the roof of the holding cells at 6pm on Tuesday.

Police were still searching for the other two prisoners.

“The two men still on the loose are wanted for rape and robbery,” said Funani.

Police warned the public not to try and arrest them as they were dangerous.

Funani said the two re-arrested men were expected to appear in the Pampierstad Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of rape. - Sapa
