Cape Town – Two suspects were arrested on Friday morning for allegedly hijacking a Volkswagen Polo in Claremont, Cape Town, police said.

Western Cape police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said the two suspects – a 29-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman – were arrested after members attached to the K9 Unit pursued the stolen vehicle.

The suspects are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges relating to hijacking, pointing of a firearm, and the possession of stolen property. Rwexana said that there were also more related charges.

“The police will continue clamping down on crime and we will maintain their zero tolerance approach in the combatting and investigation of crime,” she said.
