Port Elizabeth - Two men were injured on Friday after a labour dispute turned violent at the Markman Industrial area in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth police said.

Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said the incident occurred early in the morning when casual labourers arrived for work at Classic Process Products.

“Disgruntled workers were waiting for them and attacked the truck which transported them with petrol bombs,” Gwavu said.

“The vehicle was badly damaged and the cabin was burnt out.”

The truck driver and his passenger were seriously injured as one man sustained burns and the other was badly beaten when he jumped out to escape the fire. They were immediately transported to hospital.

There were no other injuries reported.

No arrests have been made but Swartkops police were investigating cases of attempted murder and malicious damage to property. - Sapa
