Cape Town - Dignity SA, the organisation founded by euthanasia campaigner Sean Davison, is yet to respond to reports that he is helping another terminally ill patient to die.

A source told the Cape Times on Monday that Davison would assist a patient with motor neuron disease to commit suicide on July 14 at a Fresnaye residence.

Davison became an international advocate for “dignified deaths” after his arrest in New Zealand in 2010, when he helped his mother, 85, die.

St Luke’s Hospice confirmed the source’s information that it had treated the patient.

The patient, whose name is being withheld, declined to comment on Tuesday, but on Wednesday said: “You can tell (the source) to f**k off with their religious rumours and to mind their own business. Get a life and that’s putting it mildly.”

Dignity SA spokesperson Lee Last said: “Dignity SA’s executive committee (members) are not aware of what Sean is doing. We will give you a response as soon as we can.”

On Monday Davison would neither confirm nor deny he would

be involved in an assisted suicide.

“This is a private matter which should not be publicised. One should respect people’s rights to die in a dignified manner,” he said.

Department of Justice and Correctional Services spokesperson advocate Mthunzi Mhaga has said if Davison assisted another person with suicide, he faced being charged with murder.
