Cape Town - Reeva Steenkamp’s mother wants her daughter’s killer to stay in jail.

Convicted athlete Oscar Pistorius is eligible to come out on house arrest after 10 months behind bars.

His lawyer, Johan Kruger, revealed on Monday that they were hoping that the former paralympian would be released as soon as August.

Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for shooting Reeva on Valentine’s Day in 2013 at his home in Pretoria.

He claimed he thought Reeva was an intruder when he shot her four times through the toilet door.

A “disgusted” June Steenkamp on Tuesday told The Citizen that spending 10 months in jail for taking Reeva’s life was not enough.

June said: “I don’t think it’s a good idea to let him back in society so quickly. He shot my daughter through that door where she had no space to move or defend herself.

“One of the bullets blew her brains out, it is disgusting what he did to her… 10 months is just not enough.”

Even though June said that she has forgiven Pistorius and does not want him to suffer, she still feels that he has to pay for what he has done.

“Justice must be done, otherwise there will be chaos,” she added.

Reeva’s uncle Michael Steenkamp, said they have accepted the fact that Pistorius might be released soon.

He said they hope the fallen star would do something good with his life after his release.

“There’s nothing we can do if he’s released,” Michael told News24.

“We pray he does something good with his life. We must just carry on with our lives.”

June also questioned what message it would send if Pistorius served only 10 months, and cited the recent killing of PE teacher Jayde Panayiotou, allegedly by her husband, as an example of domestic violence being “everywhere”.

Pistorius is being kept in the hospital wing of the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria, where he became buddies with Czech underworld boss Radovan Krejcir.
