Americans go crazy for a bit of fancy dress - Katy Perry lives her life almost constantly in costume and Paris Hilton was seen doing her shopping last week dressed as a sailor.

But the latest news from the US trumps even that. The most sought after Hallowe’en costume Stateside is the Lady Gaga meat dress.

The creation, which she wore to the MTV Video Awards, was made from six pieces of sewn-together steak teamed with a matching meat hat and bag.

So forget that skeleton outfit - New Yorkers are clamouring to dress up as a dog’s dinner on October 31, with butchers in the city being “inundated” with requests to make versions.

Ben Turley, the owner of NYC’s Brooklyn Kitchen, says a piece of meat couture would cost up to $2 000 and should be made from the leanest cuts of meat.

It’s estimated that about 7kg of flesh is needed to protect a lady’s modesty.

The dress also comes with a warning. It may fall apart and should be worn for only three hours. After that, Ben says: “The dress is going to get wet and really smelly.”

Now, that is a truly scary outfit. - Daily Mail
