Hong Kong - A lovesick Chinese man is to apply for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records after writing a 300 000-word love letter to his Russian girlfriend, a news report said on Friday.

Twice-divorced Guo Lijie, 44, wrote the letter to a young woman he fell in love with while working in Russia as a cook, according to the Hong Kong edition of the China Daily.

After meeting, they had an extended separation because of visa problems and Guo wrote the letter to pour out his feelings for her and to tell her his life story.

The cook from China's northern Liaoning province is now applying for a place in the record books as the author of the world's longest love letter, the newspaper said. - Sapa-DPA
