London - The train now leaving platform one... is taking bride-to-be Leanne Cole to wedded bliss.
The 34-year-old didn’t want a ‘flashy car’ to get her to the church on time and decided to save money by catching the train instead.
But when rail staff heard of the plan they laid on a specially commissioned three-carriage service at no cost.
The middle coach of the 10.50am from Fazakerley to Liverpool city centre was decorated to match her dress with white balloons and peach-coloured bouquets.
The party were given free champagne as they were serenaded by musicians – and on arrival at Liverpool Central, information screens were cleared to display good luck messages.
Following her marriage to demolition worker Andrew Corkery, 29, at the city’s St George’s Hall, the family support coordinator said: ‘We didn’t want to pay for a flashy car when we’ve got a perfectly good service on our doorstep and we’re on a budget.
‘Then my mum spoke to some of the staff and they said “No, we’re not letting you on the 10.50!” I can’t believe what they have done for me. It’s absolutely fantastic.’
Train bosses decided to help after her mother Lesley, 55, told staff about her daughter’s unusual plan. Suzanne Grant of Merseyrail said: ‘Word got back to my team and we decided to get involved and do something a little bit special.’
