London - In the animal kingdom the ability to make and use tools is possessed only by humans, a few ingenious chimps… and Figaro the cockatoo.
Scientists have been left amazed at how Figaro has fashioned wooden “rakes” to reach pieces of food left just by his cage. Figaro bites a wooden splinter off a beam in his aviary and then uses it to get the cashew nut.
Dr Alice Auersperg, of the University of Vienna, said in the journal Current Biology: “We know that these animals are very smart but we were still surprised he was capable of making a tool.” - Daily Mail
