A whopping R18 million worth of tik has been confiscated at a house in Milnerton.
Cops arrested a 40-year-old man at the property where they seized drugs and unlicensed firearms.
In a statement on Thursday, provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said an intelligence-driven operation that included members from the South African Police Service Tactical Response Team and the K9 dog unit was conducted on Wednesday at the residence in Milnerton.
Officers pounced on the premises on Burcell Street and discovered an assortment of large quantities of drugs as well as unlicensed firearms and ammunition, including 52kg of tik estimated at R18.2 million, 8 850 mandrax tablets valued at R442 500 and 0.5kg of hydroponic dagga worth R40 000.
Additionally, three pistols, a revolver, 286 rounds of ammunition, 13 magazines and a holster were confiscated.
Potelwa says a 40-year-old Nigerian national was arrested and faces charges relating to dealing in drugs as well as the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court today.
“The total value of the drugs is R18 682 500.
“As the investigation continues, the possibility of more suspects being apprehended and the one in custody facing additional charges cannot be ruled out,” Potelwa said.
Western Cape acting Police Commissioner, Major General Thembisile Patekile, praised the integrated forces involved in the operation and reiterated the force’s commitment to ridding communities of drugs and illegal firearms that spark other serious violent crimes.
Milnerton CPF chairman Mark Lindsell said: “SAPS did a great job in arresting the suspect and confiscating the firearms too.
“This means more drugs off the streets and surely there will be more arrests soon.”
