An alleged drug mert from Grassy Park made his first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court in Monday after he was busted with tik valued at over R100 000 and ammunition.
SAPS’ Colonel Dawood Laing says the 33-year-old male was busted after residents piemped him.
“On Saturday night, members of the Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit were conducting patrols when they received information about a property where drugs were being sold. They followed up and he opened the door and during the search the drugs were found.”
Laing says officers found a plastic bag containing thirteen 9mm rounds, an R1 round and one R1 cartridge.
“They searched the bedroom cupboards and found four packets of tik rolled in toilet paper and a silver scale,” he says.
“The packets weighed 400 grams each and the estimated value is over R100 000.”
Laing said the man was charged with drug dealing and illegal possession of ammunition and is allegedly affiliated with the Mongrels gang.
“We are waiting for the docket to come back from court to hear the outcome but I want to applaud the officers for responding quickly and the community for coming forward with information.
“Drugs and ammunition are a big problem and this large stash has now been taken off the streets.
“We want to thank the community for working with us to clamp down on drug merts and gangs.”
