Johannesburg - A warrant officer was shot and wounded late on Monday night after two armed men walked into a client service centre at a police station in Nigel, Ekurhuleni, and opened fire.

“A shoot-out then ensued between police and the suspects but the men managed to get away on foot,” Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said this morning.

Dlamini said the two men allegedly entered the Dunnottar police station and started firing at police officers, a warrant officer and a constable who were in the client service centre.

The 47-year-old officer was shot several times in the upper body and taken to Union Hospital in Alberton in a serious but stable condition. The constable who was also at the scene during the shooting was not hurt.

“Police will work around the clock to find these senseless criminals who targeted police officers at the client service centre,” he said.
