Residents of Heinz Park say they are gatvol of their pothole-riddled roads and overflowing drains which grow worse every year.
Zeeta Adams says: “People have to drive on pavements because the roads are filled with holes.
“Sometimes it is like driving on a gravel road because of all the holes and the cars get damaged.
“When it rains then the roads are flooded because the drains are blocked and afterwards there are bad smells along with a lot of rubbish in the streets.”
When the Daily Voice visited the area this week, we could not enter Daisy Crescent due to the bad condition of the road.
Sewage smells hung in the air over the informal settlement while residents were still throwing out buckets of water from flooded areas in their homes.
A field on Daisy Crescent could easily be mistaken for a dam due to the high level of water.
“This has been going on for years and sometimes the city comes out to fix it, but as soon as it rains then it happens all over again,” says Zeeta.
“The people here have just grown to live with it but it is not right because it is not healthy.
“Also, we are so bang for our children to play in the roads because the drain covers are broken or missing so they might fall in like that child in Khayelitsha.”
Mayco member for transport, Rob Quintas, said the condition of the street is being looked into and a decision to either resurface the road will be made once assessments are made.
With regards to the overflooded park, Quintas said the area is a stormwater detention pond designed to temporarily store water during heavy spells of rain to be released into the stormwater system.
“The outlet of the pond seems to be blocked, hence the water is not draining as it should be. We will unblock it in due course,” added Quintas.
